Trust Me by Rachel Hawthorne
Title: First Kisses 1: Trust Me
Author: Rachel Hawthorne
Pages: 208
I decided to read another Rachel Hawthorne book. I think it’s a part of a series (because the fact it is numbered) but I’m not quite sure if it’s has continuation or fresh new characters in a seemingly same theme.
I’m not completely impressed with the book. I think this is my least favorite among the author’s books I’ve read (which is only two, three if you add this one, haha). Maybe I didn’t like that the characters were too young (they are fourteen) and I’m ten years older (yes, a matter of age difference. I’m still sulking that I am 5 year past my teenhood). But unnecessary whining aside, the book was really short (it was 208 pages, what can I expect). The book is about Jessica and she is in a summer camp and in counselor training. They were asked to be partnered and she ended paired with the least guy she likes – Sean. Despite his physical changes she still remembers the tricks he pulled on her and she doesn’t trust him. Long story short, he is starting to open up to her, became a good partner and eventually trust him.
I think Rachel Hawthorne doesn’t like school setting because her books are always outside school – amusement park, snowy mountain villa and now summer camp. Maybe she wanted a little change, school setting have been used by many authors (I can’t really blame them either school is a little society. I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more drama here than offices or any places for that matter). Well the story is not that bad, maybe I’m not to, well, used to a little younger characters (sixteen is my cutoff) but it’s Rachel Hawthorne and I love her books so I wanted to try it. It wasn’t really a disappointment but it didn’t really live up to my expectations either. Maybe for younger audience (and maybe that it’s targer market) they’ll totally gonna dig this stuff. It’s cute and funny. There’s always something innocent with the girl’s first love. So it wasn’t really a bad read, it wasn’t a waste of time. It turned out charming and sweet, I kinda like it.
