Touch Novel (Book 1 & 2) by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I’m doing two books in one entry, since I read the books back to back (and they are from one series), I might sound redundant if I make a separate entry for each.

One reason that attracted me to read this book is that eerie feel to it. Some book blog said it was scary that she recommends not reading it if you’re alone. There are instances where scary movies weren’t really scary for me (e.g. Ring both Japanese and the Hollywood version). So I give this book a try. And I’m right, it wasn’t really scary, suspenseful yes, a bit creepy yes, scary (as in scary scary)? No.
The story is about Camelia and her, well… stalker. What really engrossing about this book is finding who the stalker is. There are four guys in the book and each one of them has a motive to stalk her. And since I’m kind I’m not gonna tell who (I’m crossing out Ben from the list since I’m gonna talk about him in the second book). To be honest, I really thought it was Ben (I know it’s too obvious, but the obvious is always the safest guess). He has horrible past (a suspect to his ex girlfriend’s death but he was acquitted due to lack of evidence). He is kinda aloof and quiet. And he is warning Camelia of possible danger to her life. It turns out Ben have power (surprise? Not really). He has “psychometry” and he can see events (past or future) from a person by touching him/her. With his help she was saved (again) from danger and they kinda get involved in the end but because of what happen, Ben decided to leave temporarily, leaving Camelia behind.
The story is really intriguing, I must say that. I haven’t read anything like this so I was really devoured, caught up in every page. Especially the ones with stalker point of view. It was kinda creepy I admit but that made me more hook and eager to know who he was. When I find out who, I was really surprised because he was the least of the person I suspected. This is actually first book that I really didn’t mind too much of the characters because I was really consumed in the plot. But all the characters Camelia, Ben and the others are ok. But the plot twist got me hook. It was intense and great book. I love every page. So I gave it full mark. Another book added in my wishlist.

The second book wasn’t that much enthralling as the first. She again has a stalker and this one is much creepier than the last time. There is another new character added – Adam. But the focus wasn’t really finding who the stalker is (but it still give me the same curiosity like the first book) but the development of Camelia’s power. She also has psychometric and it is manifesting through her pottery. There is also another point of view in the book; it’s her aunt Alexia, who also has the same power as her. So this power is genetic. You know what irked me about this book is the relationship of the two main lead. Camelia is too stubborn and Ben is really… inconsistent. Ben don’t want to be with Camelia but he always there (I really wanted to use the word “stalk” but I’m giving him a slack). He can’t have both ways. He is making it hard for Camelia to move on. And Adam, well, he is a nice guy but I was surprised to know who he was in the end (hint: not the stalker). I hope he is still in the third book, I kinda like his character.
Like the first book, this is full of suspense and mystery; and the development was solid. But I didn’t enjoy it that much so I’m snatching the one star out but it’s still a good book
