Title: The Underworld
Author: Jessica Sorensen, Kristin Campbell
Series: (Fallen Star #2)
Published: July 30th 2011 by Createspace

Diving in without remembering the first book, my reaction? I’m totally screwed. I think I said before the first book was forgettable. But I’m bit surprised that I actually, genuinely enjoyed the book. When I started the book I don’t have any clue what’s going on (or what happened) I know, shame on me. But while I don’t remembered the story anymore, I don’t know what got into me and I still wanted to read the sequel. But surprise, surprise it was actually good. Better.

I’m really grateful that the author took some time to pop in some little pieces of information which I think were mentioned in the prequel. As the story progressed I’m starting to grasp again the concept of the book. I think I didn’t like Gemma in the first book, she is this soulless, emotionless girl. Alex is still this cryptic, brooding and overly protective-but-too-stubborn-to-admit type of guy. I don’t like them individually. And I don’t like them together. Well… now I kinda like them a little bit. I know now why Gemma is the way she was. Alex is starting to warm up on me, though he still annoyed me with his, as Gemma said, Alex’s attitude. But he’s tolerable… at least at some parts, he was. Now I know why they have this undeniable attraction, and supernatural connection. I don’t now if that’s swoon worthy, but oh well, as long as it’s not hormones then it is fine with me.

I completely forgot about Laylen. I actually like this guy. Even in the first book. I’m happy he had a big participation in this book. I don’t know if I wanted him as a love interest for Gemma, since I actually liked their relationship now—as friends. But I’m not closing my door if it evolves into something more. Though I actually doubt that, since Laylen only see her (from what I can tell, don’t take my word for it, since some reviewers is telling something else) as sister, or a friend. It was too sincere from what I’m reading. And if he did like her, why is he subtly pushing her to Alex. That, I wonder.

I like the characters, but I’m not into the story that much. That said, it was still refreshing for me, about this star power thing and the whole dead walkers and underworld thing (hence the title). It’s just the characters left a more lasting impression on me. And that said, I think I will not be this clueless when I read the third book. I also noticed that the use of I-don’t-have-term-for-it-so-I-use-this-dash-thing has drop off a bit. Not that I’m complaining anymore, I use that often myself. Just a little observation. 😉

The book ended with a cliffhanger and I’m intrigued how the story will continue. I’m not sure how many books are there. But I do hope it’s not a long series. I actually like that the book is not dragging. I actually liked how the story moves steadily. So yeah I hope the author will not dragged the story out. I like the way it is.
