The Great ‘OTP’ Post!
Ah, today is Valentine’s Day; are you snuggling with someone? Gone on a date today? My sister said I’m a “bitter” hopeless romantic because I tend to be very cynical when it comes to real-life romances. But I’m a huge advocate for romance, at least in the world of fiction. As part of my LOVE-ly post to commemorate love month, I’ll be dishing out some romance-centric posts. And I’ll start now by sharing y’all my top OTPs (from my very long list).
(But Mitchii, isn’t that supposed to be just one? I just love to ship! xD) So yeah, here they are: (also kinda spoilerish, k?)
Hak & Princess Yona
Akatsuki no Yona by Kuzanagi Mizuho
Type: the loyal knight + oblivious princess
Canon: Big possibility; but we’re still not there. This is a slow romance!
Favorite Quote:
If anything…it’s the opposite. I want to let them look at you. That old geezer, Mundok, His Majesty Il, those bastards that chased you out of the castle and the people of Kouka.— “Look!” “This is Princess Yona.” “She’s disposed of her hair and has taken up the sword to support the country.” “She’s stronger than anyone.” “Princess Yona is here.”—is what I would tell.
— Hak
Adrian Ivashkov & Sydney Sage
Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Type: the intelligent (sometimes uptight?) girl + the careless, dashing type
Canon: The last I read was Indigo Spell, so that’s a yes!
Favorite Quote:
“I don’t care if you say we can’t be together. I don’t care if you think I’m the most evil, unnatural creature walking on earth. You can think whatever you want, go whatever you want. I’m going to just go on loving you, even if it’s hopeless.”
— Adrian
Allen Walker & Lenalee Lee
D Gray Man by Katsura Hoshino
Type: the good (with a bad alter ego?) or hero type + the good/heroine type
Canon: I don’t know, the romance is the least of this story’s priorities! Oh yeah, it’s been a long hiatus!
Favorite Quote:
“Whatever happens I’m an exorcist. Even though the paths we follow are different, that will never change. I love…the order that Lenalee and everyone are in. My home. Now and forever.
– Allen
Kyo Sohma & Tohru Honda
Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya
Type: the outcast + “real” good girl
Canon: YES, AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES, IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH, CRY, AND EXPERIENCE ALL THOSE EMOTIONS!!!GAAAAH!!!
Favorite Quote:
“The thing I do know is to “love” does not mean to love what is before you but also the past and the future.”
– Kyo
Gintoki Sakata & Tsukuyo
Gintama by Sorachi Hideaki
Type: the lazy, childlike samurai + kickass pretty woman!
Canon: Dunno, I don’t think this manga’s priority is romance, but bless Sorachi for the Gin-Tsu related arc! >///<
Favorite Quote:
“If it’s what you want, I don’t mind being only yours.”
– Gintoki
Suzume Yosano & Mamura Daiki
Hirunaka no Ryuusei (Daytime Shooting Star) by Yamamori Mika
Type: the cool but allergic to girls + country, happy girl
Canon:Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! And I’m happy because we had very tough competition here!
Favorite Quote:
“I thought it would be alright to be a substitute for him. But I couldn’t be “somebody’s substitute” because it’s something that doesn’t exist. That’s the story.”
— Mamura
Nomiya Takumi & Ayu Yamada
Hachimitsu to Clover (Honey & Clover) Chica Umino
Type: the cool type + the girl in unrequited love
Canon: Maybe? The ending was open-ended. But this has so many feels! He knew how much she loved the other guy. And he fell in love with the way she loved that guy. He watched her watch him. The thing is, the other guy was less superior to him, but he said that she loved his imperfections! Straight to the heart, you guys!!!! Oh, btw, this is not stalker-ish, ok! When they are together, he merely observes… (This is not in the creepy Edward/Christian sort of way.)
Favorite Quote:
“I’ve been watching you for a long time. You just never noticed because you’ve always been watching Mayama in exactly the same way.”
– Nomiya
“I had wanted to call him. There were so many things I wanted to talk to him about. And that I wanted to ask him about. But…I kind of hated myself…for feeling that way. Because…thinking about Nomiya-san… felt like a betrayal of myself, of everything I’d felt for the past six years. It made my feelings for Mayama seem like a lie.”
– Ayu
Juliette Ferrars & Aaron Warner
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Do I need to tell you?
Tod Hudson and Kaylee Cavanaugh
Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent
Type: the funny death reaper + the too heroic heroine
Canon: It was almost far-fetched, but it happened!
“Forever used to feel like a curse. Now it feels like a promise.”
– Tod
Tsubaki Haru and Naedoko Kanoko
Koi Dano Ai Dano by Tsujita Ririko
Type: hopeless in love but temporarily in the friend-zone + oblivious girl (doesn’t see herself as a love interest) (btw, they are best friends!)
Canon: While it is shoujo manga, the romance is progressing very slowly but steadily!
“If it weren’t for Nadeoko, I would have not interacted with so many people….To be honest, I think being friendly is bothersome. This is how I pay her back. I want to let Nadeoko interact with lots of people. Because in this troublesome matter, Nadeoko is also my best friend.”
– Tsubaki
Btw, I also loved the rivalry; while I root for Tsubaki, my heart is on the fence for Yabuki.

How about you? Do you have many OTPs as well? Is it a massive list as well? Please share it with me; maybe we ship the same couple and we can fangirl together!
