I don’t know where to begin. This is one of the books I’ve been dying to read but at the same time I also don’t want to read. You know what I’m saying? Ugh! It’s so complicated. I shouldn’t have asked my sister for spoilers. BUT asking for the spoilers did not ruin it for me, but I’m kinda dreading the part where it’s supposed to happen (I’m clinging to the notion that my sister screwing with my head since she know how I love this book). And oh man, I’m so sad that it is freaking true.

I’m so disappointed. Not with the story but with Riley. I like her better in the prequel. I don’t know where the old Riley is? She’s kinda different here, she’s more feisty in the first book. Here? She’s sort of … weak. She’s sad about what happened to her relationship with Simon. Clueless about what happened to his father, she started looking for information of who reanimated him. Then there’s this (annoying) gooey eyes with bad boy slash freelance demon hunter (or so I thought) Ori. And there’s never ending bickering with Beck. Oh gawd, poor Beck. I didn’t like how she faced these problems. I like her guts in the beginning but it annoyed the crap out me of the choices she made. If she only listens to backwoods boy she wouldn’t end up in the predicament where she is now. Now wouldn’t it Riley? Ya hurt his feelings girl!

Ok, I know, I’m bit biased because, for everyone’s information, I so love Denver Beck. And there a couple of things in this book that breaks my heart. But sometimes I want to kick this guy’s gut because if he only was honest about his “feelings,” both Riley and him wouldn’t end up like that (then again THIS IS A BOOK, it’s part of storyline… but still *pouts*). I want these two to straight the record once and for all. At least if they get along they can face those geo-fiends or whatever hellspawn conquering Atlanta. Well, that’s my just my two cents.

For other characters, Simon turned180, he’s so different from the Simon I used to know. He acted like a jerk to Riley and I’m not sure if it was the side-effect of his near death experience. But if you’re expecting Simon, the nice and righteous one, well, he is so gone. Ori? I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! I didn’t like him from the very beginning (and this is not about my personal preference that is Denver Beck). I knew there’s something odd about him and apparently I hit the bull’s eye. So I can’t blame Beck acting the way he was when he found out. He had a darn point!

I sort of like that plot is now starting to move. There are big reveals in this book that surprises me. And for the sake of not ruining it for others I’ll stay hush, hush about it. But for those who read the first book, you’re in for not-so pleasant surprise. Or it could be pleasant, however you treat it. *shrugs*

There’s a sneak peek for the third book (I’m not sure how many book in this series are, I once told there are three but I don’t think that’s enough to wrap up the story). Beck is held by demon hunters because of Riley. And Riley is with her now dead (but not so dead) reanimated dad. After finishing this book, I wanted to scream bloody murder then I thought that maybe, just maybe there’s gonna be game changer in the next book. I have high hopes with Ms. Jana Oliver that everything happened in this book have a good reason. There better be.
