Title: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Pages: 335

Paranormalcy is ‘bleeping good’ (it’s an inside joke, you need to ‘bleeping’ read it to get what I meant with the word bleep, haha). It’s really funny. And unlike Mortal Instrument, I wasn’t intimated nor confused with a lot of paranormal creatures literally roaming in this book. I don’t know what knack of magic Kiersten White did, but it sure did work for me.

Evie works for ICPA (International Paranormal Containment Agency). She has a special ability to see through paranormal’s glamour. One time someone broken into ICPA and Evie caught him. He was unlike the other paranormals she saw; he has an ability to shift to any form he wants. Lend (as in lend me your face; he said it himself), was there to get information about sudden increase of death toll among paranormals. And the reason behind it might be related to her.

That summary was too short, forgive me. But I don’t know how to make a summary without giving too much information about the book (I’m trying to be more cautious on giving info). Anyways, the things is, the book is nice. Like I always say (this phrase is starting to get old) but I was hesitant (and yet I always cave in) because of its miniscule similarities with Mortal Instrument. The reason I didn’t like it (well, not that I didn’t like it. It’s a bit slow to sink in with me) is because there are lots of things going on, like a reference book, with tons of information to dwell in. But Paranormalcy took a different route and the info was delivered in a way it won’t broke your brain for information overload – that’s how I felt reading MI. It was hilarious and entertaining, it totally works for me. The level of paranormals (which I guess based on the rarity and of course, ability) is a good bonus. Oh, and the shell bra, I crack up with Lish and Evie too. This book is really entertaining.

I like Evie, I love how she narrates the story. She is a funny gal. Sarcastic in a way it wasn’t irritating (most heroines are like this). And her fashion sense, wow, out of this world. And if you think pink is too girly, then back off. Her weapon, a taser is all pink, with a name – tasey. She is making Elle Woods a run for her money. This girl has a very shallow idea of happiness, but being surround with everything paranormal, I guess seeking a day of normalcy is definitely needed. It cracks me up how she wanted to go to school (most kids find it annoying, and tiring), see a locker (touch it, haha) and of course prom. Mediocrity is actually a privilege too, thanks Evie for reminding me, lol. And the guy, he was adorable. Lend is nice, I like him. For someone who doesn’t an identity of his own (physically) I still find him…, a bit alluring haha. Oh and Reth, Lorethan for special mentions, is a fairy dude that actually twist the story. And up until now, I still don’t know who really is. But I’m betting the money on my pocket, he is important. Evil? Or just misunderstood? Either way, I definitely looking forward seeing him in the second installment.

It’s cute, and well, I already said funny but it was really one of the strong points of the book. It’s not that trying hard to be funny, but it came naturally. Evie is a wonderful character, actually most of them are. It certainly a pleasure reading it.
