Title: Need

I’m really curious to books that was accused of being Twilight ripped-off (Hush, Hush; Touch novel) and now the Need series. Two books are out and I’ve read it both. A little warning though – I like this book (expect some positive (mix with angsty negative ones) comments). Yes, it has big similarities to Twilight (a girl moved from dry place to relatively cold one, werewolf, and blood suckers in the form of pixies). These are familiar elements present in Twilight but you know what, I don’t care. Surprisingly, I enjoy the book regardless of the resemblance.

Just like I said Zara moved to Maine after her stepdad died. And since she is the “new” girl everyone knows about her. I have mixed feelings with Zara, I have love-hate relationship with her character. I like how caring she is but at the same time it’s so excessive that I find it too annoying. She is a pacifist, and you know that most people find them – quite irritating (like Relena Peacecraft from Gundam Wing). I want to slap some common sense to this girl. Nick, her love interest, well, I’m not blown by his character; he came to me as too average. The rest of the characters are ok, I usually just focus on the two main lead. After the death of his stepdad, she noticed a man that been following her. It turned out it was his biological father and he is *drumroll please* a pixie. Her mother sacrificed herself to save the boys in her town.  Zara is half pixie and in order for her to “turned” to one she must kiss a pixie (yes, a kiss, just a kiss) and if a King pixie kiss her she can be a queen (she is a royal blood since her father is a king).

I find the plot devouring yet predictable. I haven’t read any fairy theme books (my sister said Wicked Lovely is not good but maybe that’s just her, I might try it one of these days). I like how Zara use naming phobia as a chant, which is cool. Pixies are also a nice change. The only background I have for these creatures are those cute corporate looking fairy in The Fairly Oddparents. Pixie aren’t exactly the beautiful creature like vampire, they glisten alright (they leave pixie dust but that’s just the king) and drink blood (boys only, I know why just boys, are we girls not tasty enough? LOL). They are blue skin, have shark teeth and silver eyes. But they can appear as a beautiful human through a magic called glamour. But I was really surprised that though she hesitated at first to believe that her stalker is in fact a pixie, she actually gave in the idea quite easily. I know that the plot was something already been done but the books was written in a way that a familiar plot will still come original. A definite addition to my wishlist book.
