My Soul to Keep is by far, my favorite book (given that I haven’t read the fourth book yet) in the series. Rachel Vincent is now, one of my fave authors. She knows how to make the series better. Each releases is surpasses the preceding books. Squeeing aside, you know that I love Tod right? Well he shines so much in this book that’s why I love this one. He is so caring for Kaylee here (I already forgave him for… I don’t want to use lying but keeping the truth about the Netherworld in the second book from Kaylee). Yes, yes, I am rooting for Tod and Kaylee. Don’t get me wrong, when the I first read the first two book, I am Kaylee/Nash supporter but after what happen in this book I can’t help but turn my other cheek to the older brother. Whatever the reason Nash has, he broke my heart, I meant Kaylee’s heart (but come to think of it, mine too after the big revelation). He is such a jerk after what he did to Kaylee.
Anyway, getting to the plot. As if prohibit drugs loitering around isn’t enough, there’s a Netherworld substance that’s addicting to humans (and the like), it’s called Frost and it’s a demons breath. Some of Kaylee’s schoolmates and even Nash were addicted to this substance. But Nash kept it from Kaylee and that’s not the only thing in his betrayal list; he let Avari used Kaylee’s body as a medium to communicate with the hellion, sacrificing his memories for his illegal inhalant, influencing her to have sex with him (wow, that’s not comfortable to say) and the worst, he did the unthinkable (and I’ll to keep it there). I was really shocked, stunned, surprised etc. knowing what he did to Kaylee. And you know what, Tod is like the knight in shining armor (of course he is too, did something wrong but still, it isn’t equate what his brother did) when he punched his little brother when he found out what he did to Kaylee. I like the ending where Kaylee embraces Tod and thank him, she realize it is possible to love a person that much. She is a first hand witness of how much Tod love Addy and she wanted Nash to love her the same way.
It was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. I love, love all the things happen in this book. I really love this series. The plot is amazing, the bean sidhe, soul reapers in digital era (I only hear it in manga, how cool is that) and the characters are super awesome. I love Tod, ok so that’s not new, I’ve been ranting about it ever since. But Kaylee’s character stands so much here. She kick ass, normally the girl are really weak and needs the guy to save her (or just a help in lesser extent) but Kaylee, she knows how to handle her men (her dad included), she save Nash from the hellion. No, she (in a long gown, she rocks or what!) saves the entire high school population from being Netherworlders food. And that, people, is a true female protagonist. Awesome Kaylee. Just awesome.
I can’t wait for the fourth book. I read some people (the lucky ones) who have read the advance copy and saying how great the book is. After reading the three books and its enjoyability is progressing every time a new one is releases, I know for sure that My Soul Steal will have that level of intensity (or more).
