Title: My Blood Approves (Book 1), Fate (Book 2), Flutter (Book 3), Wisdom (Book 4)
Author: Amanda Hocking
Pages: n/a

There’s something toxic with this book; something on the verge annoyance and entertaining. I read the four books in an astounding 2 days and yes, I can believe it either. With the help of unhealthy amount of caffeine and lack of sleep, resulting in finishing it in a very fast pace. And no, it wasn’t addicting in any sort, I was dying to finish it so I can move on (besides I like to know what happen to the only character that I like). Moreover, the author writing style wasn’t that complicated; it was easy to understand and even if you pass some pages it won’t matter. It didn’t value that much as a whole. To describe my experience reading this book in a word, disappointing.

I am not going to do a separate entry for each books, it’s not worth it. This post summarizes everything I wanted to say. And while I don’t know exactly how to sort properly my opinion with this book because, believe it or not it has some good points but there are definitely a lot of raising eye brows and huh? moment. I’ll try hard not to be very critical about it (but expect it, there’s a 99.9% chance I’ll fall into the ravine and leave sarcastic comments) there is something enjoyable about it.

To give you a general view of the book, Alice met a vampire, fell in love with him (throw some angsty love triangle – with another “hot” vampire) and eventually becomes a vampire herself. In the end of the fourth book she wanted to become Buffy the vampire slayer (or something like it).

Like I said there is something wrong with the book but at the same time quite tolerable that I just see myself turning every page and reading it. It’s… I can’t find the proper word, interesting enough because I was holding to the fact that it can be good (and I like one of the characters which by the way the only reason I still continue reading the book) giving the book the benefit of the doubt it deserves. While I do appreciate the author’s effort on trying to amend the popular anatomy of vampires, it did not came to me exactly innovative. Vampires who drink blood from human without turning them into one? That’s already taken; read shoujo mangas like Bloody Rose and you’ll know what I mean. Bloodpact? Craving for another vampire’s blood? That’s Vampire Knight, thank you very much. See, it’s not novel at all. As for the characters, let me start with protagonist and the narrator of the book, Alice. I don’t like her at all. Like every issue I have with the girl falling head over heels to guy that she is literally throwing everything just to be with him. I know the cheesy line, love conquers at all but you don’t throw stuff easily; like family and school. At least Bella, even though she calls her dad (behind his back) Charlie, she actually loves him and thinks of his safety. But Alice, she ditches her mother, telling her she wasn’t affectionate or visible mother for that matter. Even though she was what Alice thought, you don’t abandoned your mother, who brought you to life in a snap of your fingers, come on how rude is that. In a lesser degree, I couldn’t even consider her mother a bad one, I see worse. Totally not cool on my watch. On the other hand, she had a completely different reaction to her vampire father, who is by the way (I’ve been using this phrase a lot) abandoned them when they were kids. Apparently that makes him a good parent on Alice’s book. Yeah, right. The characters here did wonders on my face because I tend to frown a lot. I’m really frustrated with the characters. Jack, the male lead is utterly unpleasant. I like the fun side of him but everything is messed up, I’m quite happy if he wasn’t mentioned in the book which sadly occur very rare. The only saving grace in this book was Peter, I do prefer him for Alice but at the back of my mind, I’m glad they didn’t end up together.

Since I don’t like the two main leads, how awful right? I couldn’t care less to the development of their supposed love story. On the second thought, it wasn’t love story it’s more of a bloodlust mix with hankering for sex, yeah that’s how things works for them. Yes, because the only reason you want to learn how to restrain your bloodlust is to have sex with him without gulping him like a bottle of energy drink. How affectionate of her to think of his welfare, how noble (rolleyes).

And you know what I despise the most in their relationship, Jack forced Alice to become a vampire. Yes, forced her with the capital F-O-R-C-E-D. So Peter wouldn’t get her and ask her to do it because she loves him, what a way to prove the girl’s love. Jack you’re such an ass. At least Edward didn’t force Bella to become a vampire. As a matter of fact he totally opposed the idea; Jack could learn a thing or two from Edward. Vampire or not, be a gentleman for crying out loud.

This is my first venture on the vampire genre after Twilight and obviously it didn’t come out good. This is one of the reasons that I don’t like wandering around this kind of books. And I couldn’t believe myself for trying (or choosing this series out of ridiculously popular vampire series, like House of Night and Vampire Academy). I’m not closing my door to another vampire book, actually I read Strange Angels and there are vampires and… werewolves, which I actually did enjoy (I sound negative wait ‘till I post about it). Team Edward and Team Jacob once again? Not quite my dear.

I’ve said enough, two stars in total, for all it’s worth.
