They say withholding information is equivalent to lying. But when it comes to my online activities the little I share the better. I’m not sure if I’ve written something like this (maybe something similar) nevertheless it’s worth revisiting the topic (it seems like it’s going to be the recurring theme for my September posts). Today, I’m gonna talk about how much I want to share about myself and why’s important to hold back.  I noticed that the internet culture, especially nowadays, emphasizes on sharing albeit sometimes a bit too much. I do share tidbits but I make it a point that I’m vague about it. I make sure these are the information that I’m comfortable to be read by everyone.

We were told to be wary of strangers. We were told not to share too much about ourselves online.

Let me trace back to why I have this mindset when it comes to sharing. I grew up with the internet culture of anonymity. In the early years sans social media sites as we know today (yes, I’m that old ), it was like an unspoken/unwritten rule to have an online name. We were very cautious of the internet, of our information being out there. We donned tacky nicknames and usernames. We hid our identities like  we meant it. We were told to be cautious. Fast forward to today, social media sites encourage us to share. And sometimes we overshare and this is what what I try not to do.  I try to filter what goes out there for everyone from all over the world to see.

Of course this isn’t pool-proof, with everything going tech, this something I have control with, at least.

It isn’t like we can totally hide our identities. A lot of things happen in the internet so we can’t really completely go anonymous. It’s basically part of our lives now. But I think it’s OK to regulate what is accessible for everyone. At least if I have the power to filter what goes out and what’s to hold back then that’s what I’m going to do.  I think it’s fine to share what you’re comfortable to share. But I don’t encourage it, at least personally, I mean sharing everything we do that is. Sometimes we have to keep things private and offline.

I can be myself without sharing a lot about me. My niche is reading, I love sharing my love for reading manga and webtoons!

The internet, especially blogging have enable me to share what I love: my passion for reading. And this is what I love to share with everyone. I don’t seek validation from anywhere that’s why for 9 years I’m in love with this hobby. And I feel like I still have more to say whether it’s something I need to add (like this one) or brand new topics.  It’s OK to be me with reservations online. It’s still me, I ain’t hiding anything. I just share what I’m comfortable to share.
