I wasn’t planning to read this book—yet. As you may have noticed, my hands are already tied to two books. I was just flipping through pages and the next thing I knew I’m sucked in. I was really intrigued, so I decide to finish this book instead. And what do you know, I end up liking it.
The concept of savant was really interesting. It’s not unique by all means. In fact they are like psychics with different abilities (like empath, clairvoyance, etc), only fancier. The fancy thing about them was this called “soulfinder.” The main heroine Sky Bright (I know, what a cheesy name) is a savant. But she doesn’t know it since she was abandoned when she was six (I think…) and was adopted by Simon and Sally. When they moved to America, she met Zed Benedict, bike riding bad boy who is ironically musically gifted and completely good looking. And guess what, she was his soulfinder. It’s kinda like soulmates, it’s cheesy, romantic, and… I don’t know what to think but I like the idea. Once she knew about the savant and about Zed, things starting to pick up and like I said I was sucked in.
The beginning reminded me of Hush, Hush and take my word that’s nowhere a compliment, I don’t like Hush, Hush. The whole whispering through mind (telepathy) reminded of Patch and Nora. And yeah the bad boy meets naïve girl thing (ok so maybe just one scene, but it is eerily familiar to me). But thank goodness they are nowhere near those idiotic couple (sorry fans I don’t like them). Sky is ok, she is nice, quite guarded (because of her experience, or the lack of thereof since she doesn’t quite remembers it). I like that at first she doesn’t gush out, flashing gooey eyes with Zed when they met. Of course, she was attracted to him physically. Did I say he is gorgeous? So that’s given. But that said, she knows where she stands. I think Zed wasn’t attracted to her at first but once he found out that she is a savant too, much less his soulfinder—you know what comes next—things started to roll people!
Zed was difficult to label, he sounds like this typical-bad-boy-from-the-books type of guy. But from what I read he isn’t like that, at least he isn’t all that. I kinda like him. He could be your strong bad boy type and he could be this romantic, overprotective guy. And what the heck he could be funny too, I remember laughing one time when he mimics Sky’s accent (she is Brit btw). I really like his character. He’s actually quite notable.
I like Zed’s family too. They’re family of savant, not just an ordinary savant but helpful ones. Like putting-criminals-into-prison helpful ones. I like that they used their gifts productively instead of lying dormant or for selfish reasons. I actually like Zed’s family, most especially his brothers. They are pack of gorgeousness ladies. I like his older brother Victor, the FBI agent. But I found out that there’s a sequel and it’s Yves’ turn to find his soulfinder. He didn’t struck me that much. But I’m still intrigue to find out. So yes, I am going to read it.
The story was original but not. It’s refreshing in a way. I think the author managed to put these old ideas and come up with something new. And I like it. Really, really like it!
