If you noticed my url changed. My awesome host, Misaki, bought me a new domain. Isn’t she so awesome? I love her tons. And I have to fix things before I started blogging again. But who cares what I wrote anyways? LOL
Ok how do I start this? I really so confused with this book. Unlike Wither when I said I don’t know whether I like it or I hate it, I was just too reluctant to admit that I like it (then). I do like Wither but there are things in the book that I detest. Concepts that wasn’t working for me. In this one… well… I have the same feelings but completely different in level. Often times, when I said I don’t know, it means I don’t know how to elaborate or pinpoint what I like or what I hate about the book. This one? It’s so confusing. I like but not. It was awesome but perplexing and I didn’t mean it in positive way and yet, I devoured this book from page one to end.
I’m not even sure how to categorize Burn Bright. Post apocalyptic? Yeah, maybe. Young Adult? Definitely. Urban Fantasy? Could be. See? It was all confusing but like I said I like it. It’s weird.
Honestly I wanted to put the book down, because it was indeed baffling. The information rummages my brain and it was overwhelming for me to absorb everything. If I were to describe this book in one word, I won’t hesitate to say it was confusing. But I’m not sure what this book has, that I thrown everything aside and accepted as it is. Really, after I read it, I was… hmm, satisfied. And surprisingly craving for more.
Oh, and the characters. That’s another topic altogether. Like the story they’re mystifying because I never met a cast this strong, personality wise. In a nutshell, Retra became Naif, Krista-belle became Suki, Markes is in plural form and Lenoir is one dashing guy. Oh yeah, one stow away from the cast of Code Geass. What are you doing here Rollo?! No, kidding aside (please accept my apologies as I tried to make a joke out of it. No one will get my jokes), *coughs* they are actually great characters. And by the looks of it you have guessed who I like the most. Oh if only Lenoir cut his hair, why do I like this guy who can heal wounds using his tongue? Yeah, I know.
But really, in all seriousness, Retra was different from what I imagined. She isn’t exactly the Katniss type, a strong-willed-heroine type. She is actually, if not, a vulnerable type but not completely weak. She has moments that made her character a bit of strong quality to it. Remember how she stood up for Suki (who is then Krista-belle). What I didn’t actually expect was Lenoir and Retra. Really, I didn’t see it coming. Lenoir was the leader of the guardians, and honestly and embarrassing to say I haven’t established what’s the deal with this guy. At least as his ‘being’ is concern (and I say like him already, I’m pretty shallow, I know). I thought it was Markes but WOAH, it slammed in my face that there’s romance going on between the two. I thought he’s just… hmmm, fascinated on her. But the over protectiveness is telling me otherwise. What puzzled me is that how are these two connected? Like inseparable connection. I know, I know, I could be dense sometimes and overlook the details (I have got to re-read this book). But this occurs very rare, I’m a very observant person, lol. And besides, I’m having a difficult time grasping the concept of Ixion, and the guardians, and the Night creatures, and Angel Arias, and the Seal, and the Graves. See? That’s a lot to take in. And believe me; it was delivered in a non-clichéd way (it wasn’t the over used explanation type). You have to go with the flow of the story. And a tip, never skipped a word, it’ll backfire I tell you. You have to take in everything in there to fully appreciate the story. In fact, it was good thing that I did just that.
So yeah, confusing but otherwise an entertaining read. Can’t wait to read the second book.
