Title: Awake at Dawn
Author: C.C. Hunter
Series: (Shadow Falls #2)

This should be two stars because there’s not enough Lucas here! It was unfair.

Nah, just kidding.

Awake at Dawn, for me, wasn’t a very solid sequel that being said I still enjoyed it regardless. My concern was there were not enough in this book—information wise. ‘Til now my questions when Born at Midnight concluded are still the same questions when this book end. I still haven’t fully figured out what Kylie was. While there were parts when the author was hinting what she might be, the details weren’t sufficed to form a solid conclusion. I do have a theory in mind but need some polishing, so I’m gonna keep it to myself until I have something to back it up (which completely rely on what book three will divulge). The enjoyment factor was still there. The genuine reason why I fell in love with this series wasn’t the supernatural aspect of it—it was the characters. Glad to have old faces still here. This made the book enjoyable.

I liked Kylie, but she’s starting to annoy. Before, she always mentions the status of her chest (boobs). I’m glad that’s over (a bit) but there another overused topic (sex—safe sex. Remember, her mom is a health freak). There’s nothing wrong with it. Using it too much? ugh, we got it! She’s changed here—physically. Did she grow as a character? Again, just a tiny bit. Physically speaking, the hell she does. Her boobs grew a few centimeters (was it just a few…? don’t really care). Since I’m not so sure (as I said I do have an idea) the significance of her growth spurts, I’ll tolerate it—for now. I just didn’t like how it was told; I kept rolling my eye… like really? Seriously? Ok, let’s move on. Those reactions. I hope it really is important and not something to make the boys drool over her. They’re already drooling over her for mercy’s sake.

Oh yeah Lucas? He’s barely here. Like he just reappeared in the end. She dreamt about him, like Adrian visiting Rose in Vampire Academy. Precisely like it. Anyway, since this a bias (a sort of irrational and fangirling mostly) on my part but one of the things I enjoyed the most was Lucas. What can I say, he’s HOT. Although he kind lost his enigmatic charm, I find his sending of letters (as in letters, not email)… different. Different based on his personality, never thought he had it in him. He’s a bit old fashion which is a surprisingly charming (I liked him too much, so yeah, this is the silliest part of this review). Anyhoo, I’m glad he’s back, and he’s doing something to get the girl! Yup, I’m rooting them!

In a more serious note, the plot is moving. That I can tell. It was just a bit slow for me. I felt that the author was stretching the plot because I find some of the events pointless. That said, some of them were funny, so maybe that was ok. Hopefully the third book will shed some light to my poorly lit conclusion. I really, really wanted to know what Kylie is. Why they want her… and yeah, plus the growth spurt.

PS. Where’s Derek, you ask? He’s here. A lot. But he’s gone. So Taken at Dusk is Lucas time. LOL.

PPS. What a senseless review this is. 😛
