Currently obsessing over contemporary romance & all the feels!
First, Happy Valentine’s Day! 🌹💌🏹💋
Since Low Tide in Twilight ended my all-time favorite webtoon/manhwa last year I’ve kind of been in a slump. Sure, I’ve been reading every day and found some interesting series, but nothing has quite sparked that same excitement, you know? So, I thought maybe I needed to step away from romance fantasy for a bit. I’ve been into it for almost a decade now, and the genre is way more saturated compared to back in the day.
So, I went back to my ultimate comfort zone: slice-of-life and contemporary romance! But ultra teeny bopper stories just feels awkward at this point! I find them super unrelatable now, maybe because I’m older, and honestly, my teen years were a long time ago. I barely relate to what they’re doing anymore. Yes, I admit it I’m *that* old. Thankfully, a lot of webtoons in this genre now focus on adults! Office settings, sometimes with a bit of fantasy mix in, but mostly full of romantic feels. And I’ve found some amazing series that make my hopeless, geriatric romantic heart alive!

My first and absolute favorite right now is Selfish Romance! I love, love, love this series it’s my current obsession. It’s from the same author/creator as Goodbye, In-Law!, which I absolutely enjoyed. This one is different, though! It has that classic “fake dating to make their exes jealous but then actually falling in love” trope. And right now, they’re at that point they’re falling for each other, and I cannot wait for them to start dating for real. Oh my gosh, Hyeondo is just the man! He’s the ultimate boyfriend material (or will be!). Sucks that his ex kept him like a secret!
I also love Oppa, This Is All a Mistake! from crushing on his longtime friend to hooking up with her best friend, only to realize the older brother is actually way better? Iconic.
One of my all-time favorite webtoons is Positively Yours! I could reread it over and over again. So, I was thrilled to find out the author has a new series (well, not so new anymore it’s almost finished now). But shoutout to Just Twilight, it’s been such a fun read! Positively Yours is still my favorite between the two, but gaaah, Beomjin is just dreamy!
But wait! I’m not all about the fluffy, bubblegum romance I also love twisted, intense stories! Like Dog Act! The tension between the two leads? You could cut it with a knife. But oh no he’s an elite, and she’s just a woman with baggage and family drama. They have that smexy chemistry going on, but it’s all just teasing! Super sexy, though.
Speaking of dark and intense, To Your Moralless is insane! It’s about a young woman trying to save her father, and she ends up entangled with a prosecutor who is obsessed with her. Like, obsessed! It’s a very mature (19+) kind of story. The male lead has such a questionable character, you just want to smack him sometimes. He’s so cold, even to his own family! He’s callous! Like, how is this guy the male lead? But we’ll see where it goes. I love seeing messed-up characters either redeem themselves or get some much-needed character development! Aside from the *ahem* sexy scenes, this one is pretty intense.
Speaking of sexy, Who Is the Liar? is extra spicy! Like, HOT stuff. The premise is so interesting or at least very vague, in a good way! It’s an age-gap romance, with the woman being older. And surprise, surprise she’s actually the male lead’s older brother’s ex-girlfriend! The pining, the tension, the heat I’m obsessed.
And speaking of obsessions Tears on a Withered Flower? Same vibe. Age gap, hot male lead, thick sexy tension you know the drill *wiggle eyebrows* yep, yep, yep! I love this series, but Selfish Romance is still my number one! But gaaah, I need Taehoo’s backstory! Who is he? What made him fall for Hae-soo? Why is he everywhere? So many questions!
Now, for something new but already has me hooked I just started F (My Ex) (yes, that’s the actual title, haha). It’s about this hardworking girl and her super handsome sunbae, and their chemistry is so obvious! But there’s a stalker issue, and since it’s still very new, we don’t know what’s going to happen yet.
And The Law of Trash? Oof. An F-boy and student returnee at the center of gossip? Just smacked me right back into all the uni/NA stories I used to read in my 20s. So fun, so messy love it!
So far, I’m craving more contemporary romance! Sometimes, I just need something relatable. Well… not that I can actually relate since I have zero romance or relationships to speak of, but it’s nice to live vicariously through these characters, right? Right!
